Made this today… twice! So so good. Chocolatey, just the right amount of sweetness. Feels too good to be healthy? Will definitely be adding this to my regular smoothie rotation!
You Look Happier!

Thanks, it’s because I’m drinking one of these chocolate cherry smoothies for breakfast every day! 😍
I’m on a solid 7-day streak with these smoothies. I’ve been literally going to bed thinking about them. I’ve been hyping this on Instagram all week so here I am, finally, to give the proper recipe for this delightfully silky, smooth, rich chocolatey-cherry smoothie.
Original idea for this came from Laura at The First Mess – I have wanted to make this ever since she posted it, and WHY DID I WAIT SO LONG!
The way I’ve been making it has just slightly fewer ingredients:
- vanilla soy milk
- cherries
- banana, spinach
- almond butter
- collagen + cocoa powder
I enjoy this so much EVERY MORNING right now. And, while I’m not a person typically driven by protein numbers, it feels worth mentioning that this silky smooth little lady packs a solid 26 grams of protein for me in the morning. And I know many of us are looking to boost our protein in as many delicious ways as possible.
Hope you love it!

Notes
I tried this with chocolate protein powder, but I found that I preferred the taste with unflavored collagen and cocoa powder instead (what’s written in the recipe). The chocolate protein powder often has sweeteners in it, like stevia, that make it taste protein-powdery and weird. For me, it worked way better to just add the cacao powder separately.
For a complete protein with all the amino acids, you can use whey protein powder. Again, personal preference, I like unflavored best and then adding the cacao powder. Pea protein would be a good vegan option.
Regular unsweetened soy milk or any other kind of dairy or non-dairy milk will work here! I just really enjoy the flavor with that Silk vanilla soy milk. (Honestly, I drink it plain sometimes – I really love it.)

Can confirm – very smooth + delicious! I didn’t have sweetened milk so I used a combination of vanilla Greek yogurt & whole milk. 10/10 recommend!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Delicious! Made it exactly as the recipe called for and it was a delightful treat!
Yay! Thanks for making the recipe, Jen.
Since I don’t do soy (unless it’s organic) and I use unsweetened almond milk, will this smoothie need some sweetener? (Maybe a little raw honey or pure maple syrup?) Thank you!
Yes, you could use either of those!
I used unsweetened vanilla almond milk and added a splash of maple syrup and it was delish! Cant wait to make again tomorrow!
This smoothie looks really good. What would you recommend in place of collagen powder? I’d prefer to omit components of animal skin in my smoothies.
Thank you so much!
You can use any protein powder you like, or skip it all together!

I know, right?!
I just bought all of the ingredients and am so excited to try this tomorrow morning!! I don’t have a powerful mini blender (maybe something to consider for the future) what would you recommend if I’m between a full size food processor and an immersion/stick blender? thanks!
Hi! If you let the cherries thaw, an immersion blender would be the best option!
I have all the ingredients ready to make this! Question though…do you de-pitt the cherries before freezing? Or does it not matter?
It’s easier to de-pit before freezing!
This looks great! Did you find frozen cherries already? Or did you have to remove the pitts and freeze? I’m on the hunt!
Most frozen cherries are de-pitted! We haven’t bought any that aren’t
Hi! What kind of cherries do you use for this? The sweet ones
Yep, sweet cherries!
This was so delicious! I have made it several days in a row. It is so creamy, flavorful, and filling. I love it!
I love the texture of this smoothie and the sneaky healthy ingredients! I’ve been making it every day.
I wanted to love this smoothie, but it didn’t seem to be the right proportions for me. I made it exactly as stated (but without the collagen). It was too liquid-y and not cold enough. I added double the amount of frozen cherries (1 cup) which helped a bit, but overall it didn’t get cold or creamy enough for me. Maybe if the half banana was frozen it would help? Any ideas/suggestions?
Yes, if you like colder you can freeze the banana and add an ice cube!
Sipping this right now because I just made it for the first time and it’s super yummy!!
I love this smoothie, but I wanted to comment to correct the calories on this one since it’s closer to 500 with the amounts/ specific brands listed (I got 495). I noticed this since I used a less caloric soy milk for mine and it was still coming out to far above the 387cals listed so I went through and double checked. Just a heads up for anyone who tracks!
I love this and have added this to my smoothie flavor rotation!
Only change is that I add a couple shakes of cinnamon. It warms up the chocolate flavor!
Oh, thanks for the tip!
